The days are getting longer, temperatures are rising, and running is really fun again. So there’s no better time to share a few updates from our product lineup. There’s been a lot going on lately with several of our favorite brands. There are new products, new flavors, and revised formulas. We’ll summarize what’s worth checking out.
SUNN. Delivers on Its Promises
If you’ve read our post about SUNN., you’ll remember that Consti announced back then that a recovery shake and a caffeinated drink mix were in the works. Both are now available.
The SUNN. Ultra High Carb PRO Drink Mix delivers 73.4 g of carbohydrates per serving in a 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose ratio, based on Cluster Dextrin®. It also contains 100 mg of caffeine and 200 mg of L-theanine from green tea extract. The grapefruit-ginger flavor might sound strange at first, but it’s actually really good.
Also new is SUNN. Recovery Pro: a completely plant-based recovery drink mix with 35 g of protein per serving, derived from peas, rice, and pumpkin. The three sources complement each other well in terms of amino acid profile. The Chocolate Pistachio flavor is a great combination and tastes especially delicious with plant-based or cow’s milk.
Pacemaker: Blackcurrant for Runners Sensitive to Acidity
Jakob and Martin from Pacemaker are introducing the next flavor: Blackcurrant—available for both the Pro and Elite Drink Mix. Blackcurrant may sound unremarkable, but it’s just the thing for anyone who has trouble with citrus flavors. The flavor is quite mild and aromatic, without any sharp acidity, and remains pleasant even after the fifth serving. We’ve tested the new flavor extensively and are thoroughly impressed.
The Pro Drink Mix delivers 45 g of carbohydrates in a 2:1 glucose-to-fructose ratio and works well at up to 90 g of carbohydrates per hour. For those who want to go beyond that, we recommend the Elite version with a 1:0.8 ratio. It’s still made in the Giesing district of Munich, right around the corner from our office.
Tailwind High Carb Fuel: Finally Available
We’ve had Tailwind’s Ultra Fuel in our lineup for quite some time. Last year, we had the chance to test the new High Carb Fuel ahead of its release, and we’ve been waiting ever since to finally be able to offer it here. Now the time has come.
Tailwind is based in Durango, Colorado. It was founded by Jeff Vierling, an endurance athlete who found existing sports nutrition products simply too complicated and hard to digest. He wanted a drink that would cover all his needs during long sessions without upsetting his stomach. Courtney Dauwalter—three-time UTMB champion and one of the world’s strongest ultra-runners—is a Tailwind athlete. Anyone who knows what it means to run more than 300 kilometers in one go takes the digestibility of their nutrition very seriously.
High Carb Fuel delivers 90 g of carbohydrates per serving in a 2:1 ratio of glucose to fructose, plus electrolytes. It’s vegan, gluten-free, contains no artificial flavors, and dissolves well without clumping. Our favorite flavor is Ginger Lime.
Moonvalley Post-Workout Mix: Revamped and Improved
For everyone who likes to enjoy a recovery drink after a run: The Moonvalley Post-Workout Mix Chocolate—a long-time favorite of ours—has been revamped. It’s now officially gluten-free (made with gluten-free oat flour) and contains even more protein. 13 g of plant-based protein and 26 g of carbohydrates per serving, made with certified organic ingredients. The pleasant chocolate-oat flavor remains the same. Here, too, we recommend upgrading the flavor by adding almond or coconut milk.
That wraps up our spring update. We hope you enjoy trying these out. If you have any questions about specific products, feel free to reach out to us.
With that in mind, stay hungry!
