High-performance energy gel for competitions and particularly tough training sessions. Gel 160 is based on the same hydrogel technology as Gel 100, but contains more gel per pack.

Hydrogel technology supports the smooth transport of carbohydrates from the stomach to the intestines, where water, salt and carbohydrates are absorbed. This mechanism is intended to allow higher absorption of carbohydrates without stomach problems.

In terms of taste, the Maurten Gels are rather neutral because no additives or flavorings are used. This is supposed to guarantee better stomach tolerance. We would describe the gels as neutral to sweet. The consistency is more like jelly and can be taken without water.

This large version of the hydrogel is particularly useful for athletes who want to consume 60-90 g of carbohydrates per hour. Here the requirements can be covered either with 2 gels or one gel in combination with a sports drink. A welcome addition to the Maurten product range, especially for long distance and ultra running.

About Maurten

First things first: Maurten is pronounced like "Morten." The company is named after Mårten, a triathlete and family friend of founder and entrepreneur Olof Sköld. The spelling "Maurten" simply came about because morten.com was already taken.

Mårten had the idea that it should be possible, with new technology, to ensure a higher energy supply through sports nutrition. The project quickly attracted the interest of elite athletes and was first used in competition by Kenenisa Bekele during the Berlin Marathon in 2016. Bekele won the race and improved his personal best by two minutes. Since then, the list of elite athletes using Maurten has steadily grown, including world record holders and champions in nearly all endurance disciplines, particularly in running, cycling, and triathlon.
